Hosting A Small Community Minecraft Server Talk at Linux Fest Northwest

After hosting a Minecraft server for me and my friends for over a year I wanted to share my experiences with others on how we ran our small community. The talk was well attended and I had a large amount of content I wanted to cover. I think in the end I got a bit too bogged down on the installation of Java within Linux and lost track of time but it was a great opportunity to meet passionate people and get more experience giving talks.

Sallal Grange Projector Install

The Sallal Grange wanted a projector so my friend and did the research and leg work to get one purchased and installed. This is a timelapse of the installation.

We used an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350, a FAVI 120 inch 16:9 Manual Screen, and cabling from Monoprice. The cables run to a box we mounted on the stage with all the video inputs: HDMI, VGA, RCA, and S-Video. We didn’t expect that the RCA or S-Video would be used but it was under $20 to add cabling and connections for them while we were at it. We should have used a better ceiling mount, the one we used was about $20 and is not as sturdy as we would prefer. The process went fairly smooth without any major hiccups.

Dice Tray

My friends and have been playing a lot of Settlers of Catan and have been getting in to Dungeons & Dragons. we typically used the lid of the Catan box to throw the dice in and I wanted something better – to the drawing board!
